Chauffeur Protocol
What to look for in your chauffeur.
Prepare car before VIP arrives:
- Warm car interior and engine
- Program the principals favorite radio channels
- Provide bottled water
- Provide preferred newspaper
- Load luggage 1st
- Keep blankets & pillows in car
- Don’t speak unless spoken to
- Be smart
- Pick up or set down walk round back of car
- Look at using rear view driving to talk
- If female try not to use rear view mirror
- Eye contact only as long as necessary
- Client confidentiality
- Do not slam door or boot, push firmly from short distance
- Offer client seatbelt
- Hold wheel both hands top half of wheel, don’t rest elbows on door
- Enough fuel for journey – keep topped up
- Keep fuel receipts
- Don’t leave valuables in view, mobile & parked
- Encourage client to take valuables with them
- Upon debus, ensure client leaves nothing behind
- Arrive early
- Don’t lean on or slouch against car
- Have keys in hand on approach
- Don’t eat food in clients cars
- Contact list for restaurants, theatres etc.
- Route card & maps to hand
- ½ hr early for airport pickups
- Pre-arranged pick up point
- Photo of client if possible for ID
- Stay inside traffic laws
- Car cleaning kit in car kit bag
- In adverse weather/road conditions keep a minimum of the glass and sills and kick plate clean
- In tall vehicles lower suspension before debus
- Pull in close to kerb to make shallow step
- In low vehicles leave a couple of feet between car and kerb
- After rain avoid puddles to step into
